Westney Road North is restricted to a single lane this week as the Region of Durham carries out culvert replacement, ditching improvements and paving work.
According to The Regional Municipality of Durham, the lane restrictions on Westney Road North (Regional Road 31) in the Town of Ajax are in place from October 14 to 19 to allow the culvert to be replaced safely and the surrounding work completed.
As the project moves ahead, temporary lane closures will be required to finish the final asphalt surface. The Region says one lane will remain open at all times, with traffic control personnel on site to direct drivers through the work zone.
What Ajax drivers should expect
The restrictions cover Regional Road 31, one of Ajax's north-south regional roads. Motorists travelling through the affected stretch should expect delays and should follow the directions of traffic control staff while crews are working.

Elsewhere in Durham
The same week, the Region is carrying out road work in other parts of Durham. Lane restrictions are in place from October 12 to November 20 on Peter Matthews Drive in Pickering, from just south of Burkholder Drive to Alexander Knox Road, for catch basin and maintenance hole adjustments and surface asphalt placement tied to new development.
Ritson Road North in Oshawa, between Conlin Road East and Britannia Road East, also has lane restrictions until November 20 while a temporary asphalt sidewalk is built.
The Region has also marked World Homeless Day, which fell on October 10, by raising awareness and saying it is continuing its work to remove barriers to safe, affordable housing.
And film fans can look ahead to the Durham Region International Film Festival, which marks its tenth anniversary from October 22 to 24 with a lineup of Canadian and international films and special events at venues across the region.
