A 16-year-old Ajax male is facing seven charges after police say he rammed a Durham Regional Police cruiser with a stolen Ford pick-up truck and fled from officers in the town.
Durham Regional Police said the incident began around 1:35 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, when West Division officers on proactive patrol spotted a Ford pick-up truck being driven dangerously in a parking lot near Kingston Road and Westney Road.
Officers moved to contain the vehicle during a traffic stop, according to Durham Regional Police, but the driver intentionally rammed a police cruiser and took off.
Police later confirmed the truck had been stolen from a residence in Ajax.
The vehicle was eventually found parked in the area of Bayly Street East and Burcher Road. Officers contained the truck and took the driver into custody without further incident, according to police.
Youth was under conditions not to drive
The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation over the legal limit, along with flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He is also charged with driving while under suspension, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
At the time of his arrest, police said, the teen was already under conditions not to operate any motor vehicle.
