Elementary students across Ajax and Durham Region have a chance to have their artwork featured on the Durham Catholic District School Board's official 2026 digital Christmas card.
The board is inviting students in Grades 3 through 8 to take part in its 2026 Digital Christmas Card Design Contest, according to the Durham Catholic District School Board. The contest gives students a way to mark the Christmas season through creativity, faith and artistic expression.
The board is asking young artists to keep the meaning of the season at the centre of their work. Designs should celebrate the birth of Jesus and the hope and joy the board says He brings. Students may also express Christian values such as faith, love, peace, kindness and care for their community.
Where the winning design will be seen
The winning artwork will become the board's official 2026 Digital Christmas Card. The board says the card will be shared with families, staff, parishes, community partners and supporters of Catholic education across Durham Region.
That reach means a design created by a local student could land in inboxes and parishes throughout Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa and the rest of the region during the holiday season.
A seasonal tradition for Catholic schools
The contest is open to students in the middle elementary and junior grades, a range the board describes as a chance for students to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas through their artwork.
In announcing the contest, the board encouraged students to let their creativity shine as they celebrate the birth of Jesus together, and said it looks forward to seeing the many ways students share the joy, hope and light of Christ through their designs this Christmas season.
Families with children in Grades 3 to 8 at Durham Catholic schools can find contest details through the board, which runs Catholic elementary and secondary schools throughout Durham Region, including several in Ajax.
