A 34-year-old motorcyclist has died following an afternoon collision at a north Ajax intersection.

Durham Regional Police said officers from West Division were called to the area of Harwood Avenue North and Kerrison Drive East at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2026, after a crash involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle.

What police say happened

According to police, a grey/silver Honda motorcycle was travelling southbound on Harwood Avenue North as it approached Kerrison Drive East. At the same time, a black Chevrolet Malibu was heading northbound on Harwood and turned left into the path of the motorcycle.

Witnesses told investigators the motorcycle had been travelling at a high rate of speed in the moments before the collision, police said.

The motorcyclist, a 34-year-old man, was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said the driver of the Malibu remained at the scene and is co-operating with the investigation. No other injuries were reported.

Road closures and investigation

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. Roads in the area were closed for several hours on Thursday evening while officers collected evidence.

Drivers who regularly use Harwood Avenue North around the Kerrison Drive East area may have experienced detours during the evening commute as a result of the closures.
