More than 700 student athletes from across the Durham Catholic District School Board raced the trails this week at the DECA Super 60 Cross Country Championship Meet, the board's culminating event of the 2026 cross-country season.

The championship brought together the board's top elementary runners, with competitors from Grades 3 through 8 earning their spots by placing in the top 15 at one of four Regional Meets held earlier in the season, according to the Durham Catholic District School Board.

The board congratulated all of the athletes who took part, along with this year's champions for their performances on race day.

In a message posted to its website, the board also thanked the coaches, convenors, staff and volunteers whose dedication and support helped make the day possible.

The meet drew participation from schools across Durham Region, including Ajax, where DCDSB elementary schools fielded runners throughout the cross-country season and at the four regional qualifying meets.

Cross-country running is a fall staple for Durham Catholic elementary schools, with thousands of students typically taking part each year in regional competitions leading up to the championship.
