Youth soccer players in Ajax will have to sit out tonight. Champions FC has cancelled its July 3 soccer session at Nottingham Public School, citing extreme weather conditions.

The session, scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m., was scrubbed with player safety in mind, according to a post on the Champions FC website, which stated that "player and family safety comes first."

Monday sessions moving to Ajax Community Centre

The cancellation comes amid a busy stretch for the Ajax-based club, which serves young players across Ajax and Durham Region.

Starting Monday, July 20, the club's Monday soccer sessions will move from Lord Durham Park back to the Ajax Community Centre at 75 Centennial Road. The change gives families an air-conditioned indoor option for the remainder of the summer.

The Monday relocation isn't the only sign the club is expanding its indoor footprint. Champions FC has also announced plans to launch an indoor recreational soccer league for Ajax and Durham Region, with age groups, schedules and registration details to be released in the coming weeks.

Summer camp and new jersey on the way

Families looking to fill the last stretch of summer holidays can also register for the club's Full Day Summer Camp 2026, which runs August 3 to 17 for children ages 4 to 13. The camp combines soccer instruction with fitness activities, outdoor adventures and team-building exercises.

For supporters who want to show their club colours, Champions FC has unveiled a Limited Edition 2026 Jersey marking Canada's historic FIFA World Cup moment. The jersey is priced at $49.99 plus tax, with the club noting stock is limited.

Club stays busy in the community

The soccer news follows a busy stretch of community activity for the club. On Canada Day, Champions FC hosted soccer trivia sessions at Azul Resto Lounge in Pickering, with lunch and dinner sittings and the limited edition jersey up for grabs.

Club founder Chand Mahadeo recently reflected on representing Champions FC at the Club canadien de Toronto, where he worked to build connections with both English- and French-speaking communities.

Earlier this spring, the club represented Ajax and Durham Region at The Soccer Summit 2026, an event that brought together soccer leaders as Canada prepares to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mahadeo has also volunteered as a career coach at both Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School and Pickering High School through the Ontario Career Lab initiative.

Volunteers needed

The club is currently looking for passionate volunteers to support community events, soccer programs, watch parties, tournaments and grassroots initiatives.

Families unsure which program suits their young player can reach out to the club directly for help choosing a pathway. The club encourages anyone interested in its Ajax and Durham Region programs to get in touch.

In the meantime, families affected by tonight's cancellation at Nottingham Public School are advised to watch the club's website and social channels for updates on future sessions.
