Drivers in Ajax should plan for slowdowns on Lake Ridge Road starting this weekend, as Durham Region begins five weeks of lane restrictions for road resurfacing between Dundas Street East and Rossland Road.
The work runs from Oct. 26 until Nov. 30, according to a Region of Durham notice, and could stretch longer if the weather turns bad. The Region cautions that unfavourable conditions may affect the schedule.
The restrictions cover Lake Ridge Road from 250 metres north of Dundas Street East (Durham Regional Highway 2) to 200 metres south of Rossland Road (Regional Road 28), a stretch that runs through both Ajax and Whitby.
The resurfacing is needed to renew the pavement along the regional road, the Region said. It acknowledges the construction may be disruptive for commuters and residents and says crews will make every effort to finish the job as quickly and efficiently as possible.
What drivers and residents should know
The Region is asking drivers to slow down and use extra caution through the work zone, both for the safety of the construction crews and for pedestrians and cyclists who share the corridor.
Residents who want to check conditions before heading out can consult the Region's interactive traffic map at durham.ca/TrafficWatch, which shows current traffic information across Durham.
The work wraps up, if all goes to schedule, on Nov. 30 — a timeline that puts much of the construction into the weeks when daylight is shorter and weather becomes less predictable, making the Region's note about possible delays particularly relevant for anyone who commutes along the corridor.
Questions about the project can be directed to the Region of Durham by calling 311 within region limits, 905-668-7711, or toll-free at 1-800-372-1102. TTY users can dial 711 for relay services.
